"Financials / $XLF being up strongly today is funny. Lower interest rates are a negative for financials and if there's underlying weakness justifying the lower interest rates that's also negative for financials. Of course it's a rotation from tech. But still"

"@KuittinenPetri @fbermingham ASML should covertly establish local production for critical components which adversaries might deprive it of. It's very obvious this might happen so planning is required"

"Allowing the sale of $NVDA's H200 to China while far from NVDA's best chips still represents a significant thawing of the relationship with China. I wonder if China will allow the purchase of these chips though as they'd affect the local suppliers"

"Someone ought to do the same for the US. For instance it's obvious that if Europe wanted to use ASML for its own interests (and there are ways where this would be very powerful) the US would block ASML from any critical US supplies. Given that this is obvious Europe should start NOW creating alternatives for those critical US supplies"

"@ZeusGrobbelaar @Xinjiangstory Most estimates from sources which are known to exaggerate things point to 1mn 1mn+ reeducated. There were more than 10mn Uyghurs in Xinjiang plus as you said they weren't the only ones reeducated so 10-15% looks like a generous estimate"

"The Chinese EV markets which don't have enough capacity such as Xiaomi couldn't care less that other Chinese EV makers might have more capacity than they want. There's in effect no such thing as "Chinese EV production capacity" when it comes to decisions to invest in more of it since the companies doing the investing will be those which think they don't have enough regardless of the overall picture. That said those that don't have enough will sometimes buy some capacity from those who have too much like when Geely recently brought a SAIC-GM plant"

"All of this happens because EVs aren't commodities where an aggregate capacity can be relevant as all producers experience it simultaneously. There the problem is typically that production capacity takes a while to arrive and everyone ordered it in a different more favorable market which existed in the past. Plus high fixed costs often mean the capacity will run as long as it covers variable costs+something more"

"I think over the years we'll see the HKD break its trading brand versus the USD but not in the direction that's usually speculated on (that it would break above 7.85). I think it will break below XXXX and possibly even aggressively so. Why Because the US seems to be set on following banana republic fiscal and monetary policies now even including QE while rates are well above 0%. This isn't the kind of currency one usually wants to stay pegged to especially while doing most business in the Chinese mainland where the RMB is set to consistently gain in value"

"@NickTimiraos "Reserve management purchases" aka Quantitative Easing even with rates still far from zero. If not for its technological leadership in some sectors the US would turn into a banana republic in less than a decade"

"@kissmyassburger @MIC_btc @visionergeo The propellers will cost $XXXX. You're joking. $70000 is at least 100x what the Chinese cost would be"

"$XPEV CEO expects Xpeng's FSD-equivalent system to be on par with $TSLA's current FSD v14.2 by August 2026. This more or less aligns with what I've been saying - that Chinese FSD-equivalent systems (of which there are many) are around X year behind Tesla's. However since in China Tesla fields a 1-year old FSD version the Chinese are now more or less matching that which removes a commercial argument. Also typically the Chinese brands include the system for free instead of making it an expensive add-on"
