"ACC: My pick: Louisville Also consider: NC State Darkhorse: SMU Duke is Duke and theyre the team to beat but its no fun taking the favorites. The Cardinals should take another step forward in Kelseys second year as he now can really take the program in his own direction. With Kasean Pryor healthy and one of the top recruits in Mikel Brown Jr who should make an impact from day one I am very high on this team. NC State might be worth a look. Will Wade has money to play with now and truly bring in the pieces he wants which hes done. Can he make it work Why not SMU is also intriguing. I like the"

"Big Sky: My pick(s): Idaho / Northern Arizona Montana is still the team to beat here and still probably the class of the conference but these two teams are the ones I want to watch. Both return a decent amount of production. Northern Arizona was wildly inconsistent they went on a ton of scoring runs but also had many many scoring droughts. They'll need to fix that for sure but it's not an impossible ask. Idaho brings back almost the entire roster from a team that was kept improving throughout the season last year and if they can translate that to this year look out Griz"

"Conference USA: My pick: Kennesaw St Darkhorse: Sam Houston St Very similar vibes to the ASUN here in that theres a handful of teams that should be in the race throughout the season. Liberty is always good and I expect more of the same. NMSU is a trendy pick but their entire roster is new and I have a hard time backing that. Jacksonville St is always competitive and should be in the mix but they have to replace conference POY Jaron Pierre and I dont know if they have done that. I like what Sam Houston has done in the offseason. This is a team that severely underperformed last year starting"

"Horizon League: My pick: Wright St Also consider: IPFW Another conference that the portal loves which makes my job here difficult. How can you realistically handicap a team like Cleveland St that returns ZERO players and has a new head coach other than to say probably not I like Wright St here simply for the reason that they return depth in a conference where most of the teams are basically starting from scratch (Oakland NKU etc). I like what Coffman has done in Fort Wayne. Last year they were X win away from their 3rd20 win season in X years and they should be right there again this year."

"Ivy: My pick: Yale This has been Yales conference as of late and theres really no reason to think anything changes this year. Harvard should be better but last year they were as inefficient as Yale was efficient. Cornell is always fun with their tempo and they have the pieces to be competitive but I dont see them getting past Yale. Princeton is going to be rebuilding. One team Im excited to watch is Penn with Fran McCaffery taking over. I dont think he can completely flip the script in year one but he should get this team playing at a higher level. Take the over in Cornell-Penn games"

"MAAC: My pick: Quinnipiac Also consider: Manhattan / Merrimack Friday night MAAC games give me the horribles. They rarely go the way you think and Im usually trying to recoup on Saturday mornings. This conference is always a rollercoaster ride Marist last year is a great example. They were 13-3 in conference having a solid season and then lost X in a row including getting bounced in the first game of the tournament by Mount St Marys. You never know whats going to happen here (except that Canisius is going to be awful). Merrimack is always solid on defense but they struggle to find the"

"Missouri Valley: My pick: Illinois St Also consider: Bradley Darkhorse: Belmont Before last season there were questions about whether the Valley was down after years of consistently sending dangerous teams to the tournament especially after a 28-6 Indiana State team was snubbed by the committee. The hope is that last years XX win Drake team relaunches the conference back in respectability. Bradley is the trendy pick here and rightfully so. They lost X all-conference players but did a good job finding talent to replace them. But Bradley always seems to have that one team that bests them in the"

"Mountain West: My pick: San Diego St Darkhorse: UNLV This is the conference that the MVC wants to be and theyre blowing it up. This year is the Mountain Wests last hurrah with Boise Colorado St Sand Diego St and Utah St all bouncing for the PAC-12 after this year. Right as they a solid Grand Canyon team to the mix. Perennial powers Colorado St UNLV and New Mexico are breaking in new coaches which I think opens the door for San Diego St to take the conference. Always built around defense it will be hard for these new look programs to overcome an Aztec team that didnt lose too much and brought"

"SEC: My pick: Ole Miss / Texas / Auburn Florida is still probably the team to beat here. Tennessee is always good. But Im going to look to three teams with some big question marks that could could make some noise. Ole Miss had to replace pretty much all their scoring. They bring in a ton of potentially great pieces like AJ Storr hoping he can be the player he was at Wisconsin as opposed to Kansas. Texas is breaking in a new coach but managed to keep most of their roster in tact. They should be a dangerous team this year. Auburn has the talent to be a great team this year but with Bruce Pearls"

"Southern: My pick: Furman Also consider: Chattanooga The top teams in the conference all saw a ton of turnover. ETSU and UNCG have almost entirely new teams. Wofford fired their coach over violations. Both teams should still be good I like ETSU a bit more. Chattanooga also has to replace a good deal from a team that probably should have gone to the tournament but I like what theyve brought in. Dan Earl always has this team preforming at a high level. Im highest on Furman here though. This was a deep roster last year and the offense that was really good should be even better. I think their"

"Southland: My pick: McNeese St Also consider: Incarnate Word Will Wade is gone but the program should still be strong enough. Theres still some pieces left from his tenure and Bill Armstrong should be able to keep them at the top. Incarnate Word was a surprise last year with how improved they were. If they can continue taking steps forward and things dont gel at McNeese they could be a sneaky play"

"WAC: My pick: Cal Baptist Grand Canyon is gone. So is the WAC after this year. So who emerges for a one and done conference championship Utah Valley has to replace nearly all its production but theyve brought in some nice pieces and should still compete. I like Cal Baptist a bit more though. They return a number of key pieces from a team that was very competitive last year. They should take another step forward this year and take advantage of the transition turmoil"

"MEAC: My pick: South Carolina St Darkhorse: Delaware St Its always hard to know what youre getting with these teams because they travel around the country playing punching bag for the big boys until the holidays. Norfolk State is always at the top of the pack and I dont expect any different this year. Two teams that grabbed my interest that could cause some trouble are where were going to look though. South Carolina State was an absolute nightmare on the glass in almost every category. They rebound on defense they rebound on offense. This team will look different than last year they lost some"

"MAC: My pick: Miami-Ohio Also consider: Akron The top of this conference has remained remarkably consistent since they dropped the divisions in 2020. Last year was the first time in X years that Toledo didnt finish on top they finished 4th. Akron who won last year has finished 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 3rd. Kent St has finished 3rd 8th 2nd 2nd 4th. Ohio has finished 5th 3rd 5th 3rd 5th. And then theres Miami-Ohio who came on like gangbusters last year to finish 2nd and should have won the conference tournament blowing a game in which they took the lead X minutes in lead by XX at one point in the 1st"

"Ohio Valley: My pick: Little Rock Also consider: SE Missouri St - Im still perplexed by what happened to Morehead St last year. I kept picking them telling myself this is the game they get their mojo back and then watched them go from 9-2 in conference to 9-10 in conference. I know there were injuries but that collapse will haunt me for a while. I still love the OVC regardless. I have three teams Im really high on. SIU-Edwardsville was a great story coming out of nowhere to make the tourney and then get absolutely housed by Houston. They return a lot of that team but they really ran"

"Patriot: My pick: Colgate Im pretty confident in saying that last year was an aberration and Colgate will dominate this conference once again. American will still be a good team but I wouldnt be surprised if Colgate has this thing wrapped up pretty early"

"SWAC: My pick: Bethune-Cookman Southern is probably the more talented team top to bottom but Bethune brings Doctor Bradley over from Pine Bluff to bolster a lineup that was already steadily improving. The players they retained combined with the players they brought in should have this team competing at a high level this year. I fully expect Southern to be the team to beat but I think Bethune is right there towards the end of the season"

"Summit: My pick: St. Thomas Darkhorse: Kansas City Finally eligible for the tournament St. Thomas will look to continue being one of the best offenses in the country. They were incredibly efficient of offense shot the three better than almost anyone else in the country and they were pretty good from inside the arc too. They didnt lose too much in the offseason and theyve been building a deep program the past few years so I expect them to pick right up where they left off. Kansas City intrigues me. They were a trendy pick to win the conference last year and severely underperformed the offense"

"Sun Belt: My pick: Troy Also consider: South Alabama Troy seems to be able to reload and compete every year. This year should be no different. They bring back Thomas Dowd who is one of the best players in the conference and a strong piece to build around. While some of the other teams towards the top may need to find new identities Troy will just pick up where it left off. South Alabama is another team that doesnt need to fix or change much. Theyre built around stout defense that will translate to this year. Theyll have to find scoring and be much better from X but the foundation is there for"

"WCC: My pick: Gonzaga Its Gonzagas swan song in the WCC before ducking out for the new look PAC-12. They should take care of business. Saint Marys has a lot to replace and is young. I dont think theyll be as strong as last years team. San Francisco needs to reload as well. Oregon St should take another step forward but I dont think theyre at the level to take down Gonzaga. Santa Clara is intriguing Herb Sendek has them competitive every year and every year theyre a bit closer to the top. Probably need Gonzaga to depart before theyre competitive for the crown but theyll give teams fits"
