"I'm still thinking about the last market crash. If I understand correctly in perpetual futures every profitable trader is paid by someone losing on the opposite side. Normally when a position is liquidated the losing sides margin and the exchanges insurance fund cover the payout. But if those funds are insufficient meaning the losses are larger than the losers collateral plus the insurance buffer theres literally no counterparty left to pay winners. Thats when ADL steps in forcibly closing profitable positions to rebalance the system"
