"I think the elephant in the room that some don't want to highlight too much is that the risk curve associated with poor collateral grows exponentially while with years of market data we can now confidently state that the yield curve grows linearly. Do you want to go 10-50x your risk to go bust for a marginally better yield (if any in many cases) But why Because most poor-quality collateral with any traction is a yield product and they live or die based on whether looping them is profitable. If using them as collateral would cost 15/25% APR then loops don't work so they have to make up for it"
