"Last reminder to check out this fantastic episode of the podcast. And be sure to follow Dr Emma here (her acct is in the QT) or on subsnak she's got some really wonderful stories from all of her research. -- From her subsnak: "November 1311. England and Scotland are at war. Robert the Bruce raids the north and Edward II orders Sir Robert Clifford Warden of the March to hunt him down. Clifford assembles a crack squad of XX knights on destriers - the ultimate medieval warhorses. Was the raid a success Not even close. Cliffords retinue was soundly thrashed and limped home having lost almost"

"🚨Medieval Book Recommendations If anyone would like to put some additional book recommendations below here's mine: For a good general look at the period Chris Wickham's Medieval Europe is a great overview. (this was a great recommendation to me by @nonregemesse ) For the Crusades I really enjoyed Harold Lamb's two parter Iron Men and Saints and The Flame of Islam. For the Third Crusade Ambroise's "History of the Holy War" is an epic eyewitness account. Pairs well with John Gillingham's biography of Richard I. The Hundred Years War I have not gotten into very deeply yet but Geoffroi de"

"For anyone curious I have come across a massive book on the history of dueling. Chapters 5-16 deal with France. Italy Spain Germany Belgium/Netherlands and America each get a chapter. And there is one chapter on "Dueling in the East". If this is conclusive more than anywhere else dueling is a French tradition"
