"I'll start with the intermediary counterparty risk. XRP operates off a permissioned validator set and they are US based. That means the US government could theoretically interfere with payments such as censoring transactions. We saw something similar play out with big tech companies being pressured to censor content. Ethereum itself is a credibly neutral platform. Nobody has the authority to censor transactions so from an intermediary/platform standpoint there's no counterparty risk.
