"The best public schools are that way in large part because rich often educated and engaged parents can pay for things but also they volunteer get involved hold teachers to account push for enrichment for their kids etc. For society though the problem is when self interested rich parents remove their kids from the system the system suffers. I dont blame rich parents for doing this but as a society we need to consider what happens. Private schools create a perverse incentive and negative flywheel. More rich kids leave = public schools get worse = more rich kids leave = public schools get worse."
