"There was a lot of people saying to long $VIX & short $SPX through Aug and Sept because its seasonally weak. We rallied over XXX% in that time and anyone buying the $VIX complex got smoked. We saw a VIX basis floating between 1.5-2 pts and realized vol at an X handle which meant that the VIX was expensive in vol terms while lots of people were buying it. Those contracts are now seeing some life assuming Oct was bought. The literal only time that 3rd order greeks like Volga matter is in the few days leading up to VIX expiry and Vega is actually moving. Theres just simply less TWAP for dealers"
