"There was a robust trade in live eels in pre-modern England & I know you're wondering: "How do I ship live eels" Not in barrels of water. They'll use up the oxygen & die. Nope. You pack them in layers of damp moss or hay & off you go. They don't need to be in water. Wut 1/3"

"So. You've got a bunch of eel leather & you're not sure what to do with it all. Have you thought about making whips Eel-leather whips called anguilla or scotica date back to the Romans. Pliny & Isidore both wrote about them being used to punish disobedient schoolboys. 1/2"

"Well.eels can live out of water for a time. And if they're in a damp environment they can live for quite a while. Pliny the Elder (who loved to be wrong) wrote that eels can live out of water for 5-6 days if there's a NE wind (less though if the wind is from the south) 2/3"
