"Route Hijacking Lightning Network (LN) This post follows the paper written by @Avivz78 et al. (ACM 2020). A video is also available here: that helps break down attack vectors. The paper focuses on a type of Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack by exploiting how transactions are routed through the LN. This in turn shows that LN does not inherit the security of the Bitcoin network it is also clear it doesnt inherit its decentralization as it is an off-chain transaction network. What is the LN The LN can be seen as a two-way channel acting as private tabs or IOUs between two people. Once Alice and Bob"

"sure my bank and cash also works doesn't mean its immune to crashing or being stolen. something working is not a synonym of being secure. If we're only talking about inflation here then I'd argue bitcoin has no reason to thrive more than Solana or any other pos (which I don't like)"

"not a fan of this solution just a median of medians of medians etc. while these price feeds may be robust they're not accurate. Although they would still prevent a liquidation cascade like there was Friday. So it's a good start but a very classic oracle model. I will ask them a question that can determine exactly how they aggregate price although not sure they will answer. Maybe repost to see or comment I'll reply w the link here"

"@InflationsTheft @NeilJacobs that's not how the market works bitcoin becomes more valuable as entreprises accept it something you can't speed up and can't control. Its fair value is priced in always"

"@KaspaClass @BandProtocol @Fervent_Finance yeah its a bit complicated to compare solutions given they all just use a median. Robustness and accuracy if often a tradeoff in statistics but taking medians of medians is just completely ignoring accuracy"

"The median of CEX prices doesn't represent a global price. Assume the price of $kas is a dollar across all exchanges. Then I decide to go on Kraken and sell a huge quantity. So big I push the price down to XX cents on that exchange. Now any typical oracle will flag this as an outlier and report the price as still being 1$. Indeed even if X nodes out of XX go get their price on Kraken they will seem far off compared to the rest of the reports. This means that the oracle is unable to distinguish between the above scenario and the scenario where nothing happens "

"I knew you would pick up on the "true price" aspect and rightfully so. Let's do a thought process on this before addressing the other question (I understood what you meant). Say there was a single global LOB what would we consider the "true price" Obv the mid price isn't actually a price you can buy/sell at if there is positive spread (but let's set this aside for now). So let's say an asset is traded on a single LOB then the "true price" is just the BBO. Although if we want to go even further even the best bid is not the price because the executed price of selling depends on liquidity at the"

"do you think maybe me saying I don't like anything is useless maybe I should rather compare to existing ones. It's just that they all take the median nobody justifies exactly which sources and what weights so it's all the same to me. maybe the decentralisation aspect meh I'll have a good solution soon"

"yes guys I know how oracles work and I know how chainlink works. But the oracle problem hasn't been solved. Chainlink is trusted and permissioned. It isn't a decentralized trustless oracles so not interesting to me. my whole work is understanding oracles the math in the chainlink whitepaper is highly lacking. My question was rhetorical the problem hasn't been solved"

"Thanks for your answer Ill go straight to the points Band aggregates prices from a basket of exchanges - which ones exactly this seems like a crucial point for a transparent oracle. median-based approach to minimize outlier influence - so just the median or is it weighted In which case how is it weighted. I simply ask because I could not find this information on their documentation. They might have done it well I am just in the dark. economic incentives and slashing conditions - how do they do this its a very tough thing to do so Im curious as to how they incentivize honesty. "Yes I agree defi would take a hit if chainlink was exploited. My goal is indeed to create an oracle from ground up but beforehand I need math and proofs to analyse attack vectors resilience etc. Ofc this is no easy task and I've been at it for X months now. I wouldn't replicate Chainlink because I simply don't like the argumentation in the whitepaper. The idea that we trust actors that have been performing well for a long time is the same reason we trust banks and I'm not fond of that. I am still learning many things and as you have said the iceberg goes deep but I do feel I am grasping"

"I agree that CEX can manipulate but in this case I personally just think Binance did a terrible job at not using an oracle and thus introducing a huge attack vector. Then comes the problem of liquidity from MMs disappearing but that can't really be controlled or maybe your references post would enforce certain behaviour from MMs"

"For educational purposes and the $KAS community that I hold dear I think it would be good if we dove deep into the oracles each lending platform is going to use. @AppKaskad will be using some sort of LOB aggregator designed from the ground up. I am currently reflecting upon the theory of outlier detection and how to decentralize as many parts as possible. This is not at all a finished solution. @ZealousSwap is going to use @BandProtocol afaik. Not sure for @KaspaCom nor if @KaspaFinance guys are also planning to do lending. Here are questions I would like answers to in order to better"

"the oracle problem is asking n entities to provide you the true price of an asset (assume it exists) where each entity has a financial incentive to lie to you. the more they lie the more your oracle is wrong the more they can arb. you want to penalize liars but the lie influences the oracle's belief on the true price and so you penalize based on false information thus you don't penalize well. @maxibitcat #kaspa"

"too many security tradeoffs imo but that is subjective either way. then I'm personally not interested in a slow solution that requires me to set aside security for certain transactions. If I transact on the L1 I'll have increasingly higher fees in the future which also seems tough if I want to use my bitcoin and not just use it as a speculative asset. Btw I'm talking about scaling as a synonym of throughput which is maybe a bad shortcut"
