"@spion @stylewarning imo not about docs. Rust solves a specific industry problem with deep focus i.e it offers a capability. Java was the same clear value prop you can now build long running internet services and they don't need to be rebooted like C++ apps. What capability does OCaml offer" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 15:28:10 UTC 4378 followers, XXX engagements
"endorse and in particular would like to highlight that the FP community has delivered almost nothing of commercial value. Its been XX years and how do we make apps Javascript and Postgres. React was good though it was built in a dynamic language of course" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-18 22:03:58 UTC 4381 followers, 13.2K engagements
"@hhhjjj_gggg @goshatch functional effect frameworks are finally mature and delivering clear and measurable value in high scale high reliability cloud services such as video streaming at comcast and disney" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-21 22:09:13 UTC 4381 followers, XX engagements

"Effect has turned TypeScript into a substantially more powerful and robust language than it was before no doubt about it the attention youre getting is well deserved. Youre also succeeding at explaining and making these ideas approachable and bringing them to a whole new generation of developers. When I elevate TypeScript above ClojureScript for application layer in 2025 Effect is like half of the reason for that. I am happy to see you and your technology succeed" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-21 10:49:02 UTC 4381 followers, XXX engagements
"@slimjimmy_dev so thats a pretty good example of FP zealotry causing massive value destruction" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 17:42:03 UTC 4378 followers, XXX engagements
"i think application programming is a tarpit with and without types therefore i reject the superiority complex on both sides. I think dynamic langs have a track record of delivering innovation to market sooner. Thats the business Im in and Nathan is also in despite being unable to articulate it. but application teams are not in the business of innovation and therefore they should probably use whatever tool has the most industry momentum for their domain. Adopt capabilities not languages. TypeScript is a good language for web app development in 2025 and comes with a rich ecosystem of modern" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 15:01:26 UTC 4380 followers, XXX engagements
"I have written elsewhere about the twitter/scala rewrite dont want to type it out again but suffice to sayduring that X yr period 2008-2011 facebook grew from college app to global platform and added the like button timeline photos chat all on top of mysql/php. During which time twitter product velocity was frozen and they ceded the market" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 17:40:37 UTC 4378 followers, XXX engagements
"@JustDeezGuy ooo good piece of history I didn't know that Nonetheless any claim that typed FP is better starts at the baseline of what a dynamic lang can do the alpha is marginal at best and probably negative when accounting for social factors" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-19 17:35:31 UTC 4380 followers, XXX engagements
"clojurescript is not delivering objective/measurable additional value relative to the current typescript/react baseline. Evidence: Several high profile Clojure/Script web shops heralded as Clojure success stories a few years ago are in various stages of migrating to TypeScript. The common predicate appears to be "companies where the founding CTO (Clojure champion) has left the company" but nonetheless there is not exactly overwhelming evidence that ClojureScript is delivering 10x alpha relative to baseline which is the dream that made these companies adopt a niche stack in the first place. It" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 18:19:45 UTC 4381 followers, 1005 engagements
"@slimjimmy_dev i am fine with this argument but it seems to me that if you quantify this on log scale and compare to Java the value you speak of would be like XX orders of magnitude smaller. Which is the scale difference between an insect and a water molecule. I am looking for an Outcome" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 17:36:13 UTC 4380 followers, XXX engagements
"@BaptisteDupuch web yes enterprise apps no (it was JSP + jquery) and rich/interactive web apps didn't exist - phpbb and wordpress were the ceiling. The entire modern productivity/cloud/devtools stack is built on React" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-19 13:27:02 UTC 4379 followers, XXX engagements
"look at the decline of fund performance over time. each year worse than the one before as the game shifts from value to fee generation" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-17 00:53:41 UTC 4381 followers, 1707 engagements
"@therealchreke TypeScript is a good language if you want to make apps on the browser platform it is the only modern choice. I do not consider it a functional language native immutable datatypes is I think a reasonable point at which to draw that floor" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 19:19:36 UTC 4378 followers, XXX engagements
"@potetm @MichaelArnaldi @Nurlygayanov @goshatch @KoLoyYee @EffectTS_ it is also a consequence of having users" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-22 13:03:34 UTC 4380 followers, XX engagements
"@potetm @JustDeezGuy Scala is a good language for developing cloud infrastructure in 2025. In 2014 it was a terrible language for that. Clojure was a good language for cloud backends in 2016 its an okay language for fullstack web in 2016 and a bad one for that in 2025" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-20 15:05:17 UTC 4380 followers, 4772 engagements
"i waffle on this on the one hand yes of course see TypeScript and C++. But on the other hand JavaScript is not java its a new platform. Java is not C++ its a new platform. Python is not C++ it just slam dunk solved the problem of C++ toolchain bullshit for tiny scripts. People dont adopt languages they adopt capabilities. To language designers I ask: What new capability does your language bring to the table What can I do that I couldnt do before What is the killer app" @dustingetz on X 2025-07-21 16:37:53 UTC 4381 followers, XXX engagements
