"In the case the Signature Bank of New York $SBNY had 110B in assets and loan valuation of that 86B was deposits of that 76B was unsecured by FDIC bc they had more than the 250k limit in their account. So when the bank crashed Yellen allowed the SRE (Systemic Risk Exception) only used once b4 in 2008 to basically use the stock holders to bail out the 76B in unsecured deposits. Basically she protected the rich people at the cost of shareholders. So given that the stock is worth maybe $X after asset sales but if she hadn't done that it would be closer to $400/share. Insane"

"๐Ÿงต Signature Bank shareholders werent wiped out by the market. They were wiped out by a rule that protects the irresponsible rich depositors. Signature Bank - $SBNY didnt fail because it was insolvent in the traditional sense. It failed because regulators changed the rules mid-game & shareholders paid the price. Heres what most people still dont understand ๐Ÿ‘‡ ๐Ÿ”น What normally happens when a bank fails Under standard FDIC rules: Depositors are insured up to $250000 Uninsured depositors absorb losses Shareholders are last in line but not automatically zero This hierarchy exists for a reason:"
