"Seattle and GCU. But GCU never comes. You take a second school in San Diego hoping the top of the Big West comes along but Irvine says no. So you grab Denver and then St. Thomas as their travel partner. Seattle Denver another SD school and St. Thomas to the WCC"

"First the WCC will be fine for a time because they have tens of millions of Gonzaga and SMC money to share and split for 3-6 years. That might prevent a MWC from peeling off USF unless they simply want out now. My conjecture is the Denver news is mostly about what the WCC couldn't execute. They should have gunned for the map below (and hoping SMC was in it) and it seems like they did. That would have been a solid hoops league with very modest travel costs for the other sports (which are all deficit sports). One trip up to the northwest otherwise it's a California league. You patch your boat"

"If SMC got much Zags remaining NCAA units improved NCAA unit splits going forward doesn't have to sign a grant of rights and can still leave fast and cheap for the PAC or MWC I'd be cool to squat in the WCC for 3-4 more years as the west shakes out. Otherwise you gotta go"

"@RockyMoonShine2 Same. If I was the MWC I would overpay for SMC and USF now (at different prices) and then circle back to scoop up LMU and Pepperdine for peanuts in 2031 (when the Zags and SMC NCAA money dries up)"

"If the deal is already done SMC loves the terms and this is just a matter of the PAC rolling things out that MH dude said SMC was finalizing. So maybe it's in fact done. But otherwise OSU has never made a PAC addition until before (or after) the final deadline hoping to get the best terms SMC has X more months of runway and we watched how the Zags played the talking to three leagues game"

"PAC rolled out "9 hoops teams next year" chatter on WCC media day. That could mean many things but most likely: (1) SMC has a deal with the PAC and all decided that SMC should play next season in the WCC to reduce the exit fee from $1M to 500k; or (2) there is no deal and the PAC is posturing again (like they did in May and June)"
