"Have you tried exporting 3D models of your PCB from Altium It looks significantly shittier that KiCAD exports. One of my client didn't like the 3D model from Altium's export we literally had to import the PCB to KiCAD and generate 3D model from KiCAD. Altium-bashing is quite popular these days and its not hard to see why. ๐
I just spent [--] minutes on Altiums website and still have zero idea how much a license will cost me next year. Ive been paying roughly 2k/year which felt manageable but the complete lack of Altium-bashing is quite popular these days and its not hard to see why. ๐

"I only routed DDR3 in KiCAD which ran at [---] MHz. You can pretty much ignore the variance in propagation speed at those speeds but if you move into DDR4 and upwards ignoring that variance becomes risky. Up until now I used Altium in a design where we had to route [--] LPDDR4 RAMs and PCIe Gen4 which can do delay matching. The work around is as you also suggested keeping them in the same layers. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2014014004457332967 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2014014004457332967"

"@blind_via That entirely depends on your routing. What would be interesting is to check how much difference in propagation delay we can expect in a typical stack up for different layers. I'll check an Altium project tomorrow morning to see the difference"

"Ive started learning TDD and am trying to run unit tests on my PC rather than the target hardware. Question: Is conditional compilation acceptable for unit testing For example I have a function that manipulates bits and bytes for my ADC registers but it also triggers a DMA transfer. I want to test the logic but the DMA obviously won't work on my PC. I want to just compile the DMA transfer away with an #ifdef. I know people usually say "just mock it" but the DMA function is in another file that I wrote. Do I really have to write mocks for my own functions Whats the "nice" way to handle this"
