"The Kremlin has weighed in on a Financial Times report claiming that Ukraine is preparing for spring elections and a referendum on a peace deal. DMITRY PESKOV: "What were really seeing here is officials trading messages through the media via unnamed sources. One set of sources says election preparations have started then another source from the Kiev administration says thats not true and that the information is being checked. "So this all needs to be watched carefully. Its worth noting but at the end of the day you have to rely on primary sources. And so far no such statements have come from"

"Another blooper from the EUs top diplomat Kaja Kallas. She tells US Ambassador Michael Waltz that Russia has no allies. Thats simply not true. Moscow has six treaty-bound mutual defence partners: Belarus Armenia Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan (CSTO) plus North Korea a nuclear-armed state. You can debate how reliable or willing those allies are. But saying Russia has none is just basic factual error. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2022371973964485014 https://twitter.com/i/web/status/2022371973964485014"

"Russian tycoon Oleg Deripaska says that watching debates like the Munich Security Conference shows how poorly EU elites understand the world beyond the West: Russia the East the Global South Latin America. He argues that Western Europe is fixated on idiotic strategies to contain Russia over a supposed existential threat while the real challenge is the rise of the Global South which the ageing West cannot compete with economically or militarily. Deripaska says Moscow should fully pivot away from a West-centric model toward pragmatic ties with China India Africa and Latin America. He adds that"

"Russia doesnt want to break from China so it can turn its 4000km Far Eastern border into the front line of the new Cold War. Turning Khabarovsk into 1960s Berlin would be suicidal. Moscows rational interest is workable relations with both Washington and Beijing and not becoming cannon fodder in their rivalry. And Russia doesnt want to control or colonise the rest of Europe. For starters it lacks the manpower and it doesnt have the ideological zeal of the USSR which had roughly double the population and wanted to convert the world to communism.
