"Rise of "Reactionary Politics" in the SDA Church Has anyone noticed a rise of explicitly right-wing politics in the SDA church Growing up my church was conservative lifestyle wise but not conservative politically (as fusion of Church and State= Sunday Law). That being said I have noticed that the "Adventist youtube" circuit some churches and independent ministries are now starting to embrace explicitly right winged politics and "Christian Nationalism" talking points. Eg: "ProLife Andrew" Conrad Vine and his anti "Woke Churches" sermon; the Village SDA Church in Berrien Springs and their"

Their first [--] albums are classics. Also their music is still respected in both the gospel and secular jazz music worlds. Even Jacob Collier has collaborated with them. "Delusional SDA Ideas Curious What do you think is the most nonsensical idea held in the "official" beliefs of the SDA church Imo it's Sunday Law which to be fair is not explicitly mentioned in the [--] fundamental beliefs but can be seen as linked to Fundamental belief #8 "The Great Controversy"; and #18 "Gift of Prophecy". However I think the "Gift of Prophecy"/"inspiration of Ellen White's writings" (Fund. #18) and the "Sanctuary" doctrine (Fund. #24) are a close second and third lol. exAdventist exAdventist"

"A weird problem in the SDA church To piggy back off of my "Rise of Reactionary Politics in the SDA church" post: https://youtu.be/twhbavLMBAgsi=db_T-xrquUCYVgWp This link of Jonathan Zirkle challenging the GC leadership on their stance on the Covid Vaccine to me encapsulates another huge problem that I've noticed in the SDA church. A problem I have noticed is that the SDA laity (particularly white churches but not limited to them) on average are actually MORE conservative in lifestyle politics and theology than the actual world church position; and obviously more conservative than the"

"SDA Reputation Why do you think the SDA Church doesn't have quite as "bad" a reputation in the general public as groups like Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses Is it due to the church trying to stay "lowkey" in the pop world Or is it the fact that the church doesn't "legally"/fundamental beliefs wise practice "shunning" (even though I know this may happen to people in super conservative SDA communities) exAdventist exAdventist"

"The only "Jazz" song in the SDA hymnal I know that historically a lot of "conservative" Adventist have had some kind of aversion to the listening of and/or incorporation of jazz/jazz elements in liturgucal music. That being said it seems that "A Quiet Place" (Hymn #503) by Ralph Carmichael made the cut. Why do you think that this song that musically leans to the jazz genre (at least harmonically) made the SDA hymnal and not to my knowledge other "jazz styled" songs Also for those who doubt how "jazzy" the song is here are both Ralph Carmichael's and Take 6's renditions of the song: Ralph"

"The SDA Church is COOKED I don't know if any of you all saw this lunacy but apparently Charlie Kirk is now supposed to be speaking at a large Adventist gathering. The SDA Church while problematic has historically tried to on a 'doctrinal'/'organizational' position remain "apolitical" (yes I'm aware of historical political problems that have happened/happens in the church). However I fear that this event will usher in an even greater "Christian Nationalist" sentiment than ever before amongst many lay members of the church who may have been a bit hesitant to jump totally into that ideology."

"NBA Stats Need Context I think when comparing players from different eras and considering stats there needs to be context. A good example is SGA's stats this year. I've seen people try to argue (at least on TikTok) that he is better this season than any Jordan season (which is insane considering that Jordan has some very dominant seasons statistically as well). However I think when comparing the stats of two different eras we need to think about "pace" era play styles era specific league true shooting percentage era defensive rules etc; before we jump to conclusions. "Scoring Titles Deserve to Be in the same "Tier" as MVPs and Finals MVPs I think its time we re-evaluate how we view Scoring Titles in the NBA. Right now MVPs and Finals MVPs are treated as the ultimate "prestige" individual honors but Id argue that leading the league in scoring should be considered in that same top tier.
